Resumen
Resumen: Durante el año 2012 se ha celebrado el bicentenario del nacimiento de Antonio Casares Rodríguez, y este 2013 se cumplen 125 años da su muerte. Primer catedrático de química de la Universidad de Santiago, introductor del análisis espectroscópico en nuestro país, líder del equipo que realizó la primera anestesia clorofórmica en España, autor de libros de texto de química general que fueron utilizados en varias universidades españolas, etc. Creemos que su contribución a la química, y a la ciencia en general, no es suficientemente conocida y es propósito de este artículo ayudar a que se valore su obra convenientemente.

Abstract: In 2012 it has been celebrated the bicentenary of the birthday of Antonio Casares Rodríguez, and 2013 marks the 125th of his death. First professor of Chemistry in the Santiago University, pioneer of the spectroscopy for chemical analysis in Spain, leader of the team that carried out the first chloroformic anesthesia in our country, author of chemistry textbooks that were used en several Spanish university, etc. We think that the contribution of Casares to the Spanish chemistry is not enough known and considered. One purpose of this article is to allow the nowadays chemist to know the important scientific contribution of Antonio Casares Rodríguez.
