Abstract

In 2018 the famous portrait of Antoine Laurent Lavoisier and Marie Anne Paulze by Jacques Louis David (1788), which is an iconic picture of the foundation of modern chemistry, turns 230 years old. Also, it has been 190 years since the synthesis of urea by Wöhler in 1828, which is one of the most important foundational moments of organic chemistry. Starting from these anniversaries, this paper analyzes their presence in Secondary Education Chemistry textbooks; pointing out how these educational materials have neglected the perspectives and research results provided by historians of science.
