Homogeneous catalysis in aqueous media: A challenge of modern Organometallic Chemistry

Abstract

Water is a cheap, widely available and harmless solvent. Aqueous Organometallic Chemistry and its catalytic applications have been the subject of increasing attention in recent years, as they allow the development of "clean" industrial processes. This article describes the basic aspects of the aqueous chemistry of organometallic derivatives and their main catalytic applications in aqueous media via biphasic catalysis (organic-water phases). The use of water as a reaction medium and the recovery of catalysts are extremely attractive characteristics on an industrial scale that support the current interest and development of Organometallic Chemistry in aqueous media.
