Abstract
Einstein´s work is framed in the field of physics. His most popular result, the famous equation E = mc2, giving the energy equivalent of a mass m, has very important conse-quences in nuclear physics, but also in chemistry, because it helps to provide a funda-mental interpretation to the origin of the energy released in chemical reactions. That energy appears in the chemical reactions as a result of a tiny mass change when the reactant species transform into the products of the reaction. The change is of the order of a part in 100 millions (10-8) only, but it gives the whole of chemistry.
