Abstract

Spain's membership of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) is key to strengthening the visibility and influence of Spanish chemistry. Today, IUPAC goes beyond the standardisation of chemical language and acts as a central player in global scientific governance, promoting international standards and projects in sustainability, education, and digital transformation. This article analyses the scientific, educational, and influential impact of Spain's membership of the IUPAC and highlights the relocation of its international headquarters to Europe, with shared headquarters in Malaga and Rome, as a milestone that consolidates Spain's role and opens up new opportunities for leadership and international cooperation.
