Chemical processes in the fight against climate change: from the material scale to the process scale

Abstract

Greenhouse effect related issues are a great challenge in the development of chemical processes since this effect explicitly depends on energy use. This article is focused on different approaches for overcoming this problem based on chemical processes. Four different approaches are considered: new chemical processes for obtaining chemicals and biofuels from biomass (based on hydrolysis-aldolisationhydrogenation); the development of new adsorbents for CO2 removal; the combustion of lean methane-air mixtures in catalytic reverse flow reactors, and the use of membrane reactors for manufacture hydrogen with low carbon footprint.
