Abstract

The aim of this article is to provide an overview of geological storage of carbon dioxide, and the possible geochemical interactions occurring from the earliest injection stages, interacting with the materials of the well; to long-term interactions with the reservoir rock, where the CO2 will be retained as a secondary precipitated mineral, and with the caprock which role is to prevent CO2 leakages from the storage site to the surface and avoid contamination of shallow potable groundwater.
