Abstract

There are many biographies about the Dr. Antonio Casares, referrer of the spanish medical hydrology. None mentioned their relationship with Gran Canaria. Nevertheless a chemical study was required by the Real Sociedad Económica de Amigos de el País de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (RSEAPLPGC) in 1868 to Dr. Casares. This chemist is considered the first researcher who performed a quantitative chemical analysis of the mineral waters of Azuage. The (RSEAPLPGC) promoted the construction of the most important health resort in the Canary Islands between the second half of the 19 th century and the second half of the 20 th century.
